Summer in Spartanburg
One of the things I love about living and working in Spartanburg is that there’s always something happening close to home. You don’t have to travel far to make great memories. Whether your family enjoys being outdoors, cooling off in the summer heat, exploring something educational, or simply trying somewhere new, here are a few local favorites worth checking out this summer.
1. Spartanburg County Public Libraries + Planetarium
Local tip: This is the best library around, not just for the books. Kids of all ages can explore and play. One of the coolest things we recently found there is the Maker Lab, which is for kids 12+. They (and the parents) can sign up for classes or one on one instruction in everything from sewing to button making.. It is the coolest thing to go too and a great way to connect with your teenagers. There is also a Jr Maker Lab for younger children. Also, don't forget to sign up for their summer reading challenge for all ages and you even get a prize for completing the challenge.
This is one of those underrated family activities. From summer reading programs and events to exploring the planetarium, there’s a lot happening throughout the season.

Local tip: Check out their summer events! A few times during the summer they will host fun evening events! They even have a few senior swim nights for the 55+ and older (no kids allowed)
When temperatures climb, this is an easy family favorite. Water slides, splash zones, and a full day of summer fun.

Local Tip: This is a super fun place especially for kids 5 and under! They even have little crawling play areas for the babies. So much fun! Hands-on learning always wins.
This is a great option when you want something active, educational, and indoors.

4. Summer Splash Pads (2026 Schedule)
Local Tip: Don't forget to take water shoes and sunscreen - most of the splash pads have very little shade and tons of sun.
Simple summer fun. Splash pads continue to be one of the easiest and most affordable ways to enjoy the season.
Check current schedules and operating hours before visiting.

Local Tip: You can rent a non motorized fishing boat by the hour or day or a kayak and make your way around the lake. It is also a great place to hike with terrain suitable even for little kids
If your family enjoys spending time outdoors, Croft offers plenty to explore. Fishing, hiking, horseback riding, trails, and open space make this a great day trip.

Local tip: You can play free putt-putt downtown: either bring your own clubs and balls, or stop by and borrow one from one of the downtown businesses
Walk around, support local businesses, grab dessert, and enjoy summer evenings together. Sometimes the simplest outings become the best memories.

8. Visit Strawberry Hill USA
Local Tip: They have a cafe where you can get breakfast or lunch. They have these cathead biscuits that are the
largest I have ever seen. So yummy. They also have an ice cream shop! A little bit of a drive but worth it!
Summer traditions and local favorites. Fresh fruit and time outdoors never disappoint.

Final Thoughts
One thing we talk about often at The Fravel Group is that real estate is about more than homes.
It’s about lifestyle.
It’s about community.
It’s about creating a life you enjoy living.
Hopefully this list gives your family a few ideas for making the most of summer around
Spartanburg.
And if you're thinking about making a move this year, we'd love to help you find not just the right
house — but the right community.
