Fravel's Favorites: My Top 3 BBQ Spots in Spartanburg

One of the best parts about living in Spartanburg is the food.

We've got plenty of great local restaurants, but every now and then someone asks me:

"John, where's the best BBQ around here?"

Now before I get myself in trouble, let me be clear—there are a lot of good BBQ spots across the Upstate.

But if you're asking for my personal favorites, these three are always near the top of the list.

So in no particular order, here are a few places I think every BBQ lover should try.

1. Smok'y Blues BBQ (West Side Spartanburg)

The BBQ is fantastic, but if you ask me, the collards might be the best in the world.

And Tyler's brisket? Outstanding.

Then there's that sweet potato side dish...

WOW.

This is one of those places where everything on the plate deserves attention.

And if you stop by, tell Tyler I said hey.

Smok'y Blues has become a local favorite known for its wood-smoked BBQ and scratch-made sides.

2. Midway BBQ

If you've never had Midway's mac and cheese, you're missing out.

That mac and cheese might change your life.

Located in Union, Midway has built a loyal following over the years and is well known throughout the Upstate for its Southern cooking and BBQ.

They also operate a food truck that regularly visits Spartanburg and surrounding communities.

You can also follow their updates and food truck schedule on Facebook.

3. Pig Out BBQ (Inman & Drayton)

Pig Out has been a local staple for years.

The ribs are always excellent.

But if you're asking me what you absolutely have to order...

It's the peach cobbler.

Seriously.

Don't leave without it.

Pig Out operates locations in both Inman and Drayton and has been serving the Spartanburg area for decades.

Final Thoughts

One thing I love about Spartanburg is supporting local businesses.

These are three places I personally enjoy, and if you're looking for BBQ this weekend, they're worth checking out.

Of course, everybody has their favorites.

So now I want to hear from you.

What's your favorite BBQ spot in Spartanburg?

Maybe it'll end up on a future edition of Fravel's Favorites.

Stay tuned for the next installment.
